In 2008 NUDE Skincare asked Studio Caparo to oversee the manufacturing and installation of the concessions in their UK launch sites.
The brief:- Create a set of curved units, with integrated computer lighting, specialist paint finishes and Decoran glass. In addition, for each site create a unique ‘centrepiece’ incorporating a giant light box, cantilevered shelving and curved surround.
Using CNC technology and in close collaboration with lighting designers, Studio Caparo developed a suite of units for the NUDE brand. The first installation was in the new Whole Foods Market, Kensington and was implemented in a tight four day program. The centrepiece of this build was a 10 square metre sheet of Decoran recycled glass etched with the Nude logo. Behind the glass, 500 computer controlled lights subtly shifted the colour mood. The weight of the glass and cantilevered shelf meant that the core of the design was a metal structure bolted into the concrete wall behind. After this first install, Studio Caparo developed three more installs in Harvey Nichols- London, Manchester and Birmingham.
For NUDE’s overseas ambitions, Studio Caparo developed a miniature unit that could be easily shipped anywhere in the world. Called ‘Pebble’, this unit showcased an innovative miniaturisation of the original concept. It so far has been sent to the Barney’s stores in LA, Boston and New York.
